Is the CV officially dead?!

According to The Times today, the rise of AI-generated job applications is making it difficult for firms to distinguish between candidates who use the software to refine or enhance their writing. But it’s not AI that’s the real problem - it’s CV inflation: “Lying just enough to keep up with all the other liars,” as Thomas Erikson, author of 'Surrounded By Idiots', puts it. Now, even though you might spend hours crafting your CV masterpiece, the prevailing assumption is that anything clever has been written by AI, so you’re likely to fall at the first hurdle regardless. Psychometric testing can help weed out the duds, but recruiters are struggling with how to first identify promising candidates amid the flood of AI-generated waffle that fills their inboxes. Perhaps the answer lies in video recruitment: candidates submit a recording of themselves, which can be viewed alongside their CV. This allows recruiters to evaluate the non-verbal and emotional aspects of the candidate, cutting through any CV flannel. The CV has always been a quantitative tool to open the door; the qualitative work was always done during the interview, when recruiters assessed whether the candidate was a good fit. With video recruitment, recruiters get what they need, candidates are assured that their unique qualities are being evaluated, and the entire process becomes quicker and more effective!
