‘Friday Night Dinner’ and ‘The Death of Stalin’: Trump’s Crisis Mode

Updated: Apr 7

Mr. Morris couldn’t have put it better. The US security leak fiasco feels like a scene straight out of ‘Friday Night Dinner’. Specifically, when the grumpy octogenarian suitor of Jackie’s mum lost control of his car and fumed: “Your house just crashed into my car!”

That’s exactly how US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth looked when he sought to blame anyone but his own administration about a reporter that had been mistakenly added to a supposedly secure Signal chat about bombing the Houthis. A classic case of blaming the messenger, (as opposed to Messenger 😆)

Trump claims he knew nothing- though he still found time to slag off the ‘Atlantic’ journalist caught in the mix. Meanwhile, his team is scrambling like characters from ‘The Death of Stalin’.

The reality is setting in: governing is far harder than campaigning. A number of inexperienced staffers are learning that lesson the hard way. Mr. Morris blustered his way through life’s mishaps - Trump, as the supposed leader of the free world, doesn’t have that luxury.

If he doesn’t step up and take control, his house of cards could come crashing down. Because the press is circling - and they smell blood.
